Description

Every Christian would like to become more joyful. The New Testament even commands us to "rejoice always" (1 Thessalonians 5:16). So how do we cultivate a deep and resilient joy that will endure through all circumstances?

This seven-session Bible study explores what joy is and how to have it.

Each session will draw you to look closely at the Bible text and apply it meaningfully to your everyday life. It includes questions that open up discussion, optional personal reflections, and a concise Leader’s Guide.

Flexible and easy to use, Good Book Guides are perfect for both groups and individuals.

Features:

  • Thoughtful questions that get to the heart of the text and apply it meaningfully to your life
  • Discussion prompts
  • Leader’s Guide
  • Optional extra sections if you have more time, including prayer prompts and icebreaker ideas

“The Good Book Guides are a fantastic resource for small-groups and personal study. I've used many of them myself. For a busy small-group leader, or a Christian looking for refreshment in his or her devotional life, these come so highly recommended.” - Sam Allberry, Pastor and Author

“Each guide in this series provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.” - Tim Chester, Crosslands Training; Author

I love this small group study guide series from The Good Book Company. Christians are regularly told they should spend more time studying God’s Word, but sometimes there’s not a clear plan for how to do this. These study guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.

The aim of the The Good Book Company is to be biblical, relevant and accessible, and nothing embodies that ethos more than their Good Book Guides. Each guide provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.

The Good Book Guides are an immensely precious resource for the church. A careful blend of helpful context and clearly-worded, searching questions which aim to help readers to uncover the meaning of the text and  apply it in responsible ways. I think these small group studies are the best available and pray that they will continue to prove helpful to local churches across the world!

“Great Study”

We have thoroughly enjoyed all the study guides created in The Good Book Guides series from The Good Book Company. This is our first time reading from author Anne Woodcock.

The book is structured with seven sessions that can be completed in whatever timeframe you wish. The introduction discusses the format of each session and how best to utilize the book. Woodcock also includes a "Why Study Joy" pitch. The concept of the study is to dive into the happiness of the heart.

Each session includes the following sections:

- Talkabout: ice breaker to create initial discussion around the Bible

- Investigate: passage, dictionary, and exploratory questions

- Apply: practical and personal questions

- Explore More: going deeper

- Getting Personal: personal reflection

- Pray: sit with the Lord

Woodcock also includes a leaders guide that includes additional questions and insight for each section of each session. This guide allows the book to be used in a small group format but it can also easily be used as a personal study.

This study does not discuss a specific book of the Bible but rather several passages that touch on a biblical view of joy. Some of the passages reviewed include Philippians, Nehemiah, Psalms, Revelation, Luke, Acts and many more.

I appreciate the variety within each session. Although some sections are noted as optional, I do believe every part is vital to getting the most out of the book being studies. Although this was a great study and I'm excited to use it for a small group setting, I do prefer studies that focus on a specific book of the Bible.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.

“Accessible Topical Bible Study”

When you're looking for Bible studies, you want something that is accessible for the young Christians yet also deep enough to challenge the folks who know a bit more. This Good Book Guide on Joy is just such a resource. I look forward to digging into this study myself & tracing the theme of joy thorough the story of Scripture.
