Description

This seven-session Bible study on Galatians by Timothy Keller will excite Christians about the gospel and help them apply it to every aspect of their lives.

The Galatian church was torn between the view that their efforts saved them and the gospel, which told them that it was Christ's work that mattered. The choice still confronts us today, making this a hugely relevant and exciting book to study.

Each session will draw you to look closely at the Bible text and apply it meaningfully to your everyday life. It includes questions that open up discussion, optional personal reflections, and a concise Leader’s Guide.

Flexible and easy to use, Good Book Guides are perfect for both groups and individuals.

Features:

  • Written by a trusted Bible teacher
  • Covers the entire book of Galatians in seven sessions
  • Thoughtful questions that get to the heart of the text and apply it meaningfully to your life
  • Discussion prompts
  • Leader’s Guide with insights on every question
  • Optional extra sections if you have more time, including prayer prompts and icebreaker ideas

There is an accompanying commentary by Timothy Keller available for those wanting an even more in-depth study or for those teaching the Bible to others.

“The Good Book Guides are a fantastic resource for small-groups and personal study. I've used many of them myself. For a busy small-group leader, or a Christian looking for refreshment in his or her devotional life, these come so highly recommended.” - Sam Allberry, Pastor and Author

“Each guide in this series provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.” - Tim Chester, Crosslands Training; Author

I love this small group study guide series from The Good Book Company. Christians are regularly told they should spend more time studying God’s Word, but sometimes there’s not a clear plan for how to do this. These study guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.

The aim of the The Good Book Company is to be biblical, relevant and accessible, and nothing embodies that ethos more than their Good Book Guides. Each guide provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.

The Good Book Guides are an immensely precious resource for the church. A careful blend of helpful context and clearly-worded, searching questions which aim to help readers to uncover the meaning of the text and  apply it in responsible ways. I think these small group studies are the best available and pray that they will continue to prove helpful to local churches across the world!

“Solid Study, But Minimal Teaching Content”

(Review written for 'Galatians: Gospel Matters')

This is a reissued edition of an existing Bible study by Timothy Keller. It is part of the Good Book Guide study series, which connects with the series of biblical commentaries from the same publisher. Keller wrote "Galatians for You," and this study can work as a companion guide to that book, or as a standalone. It is also suitable for either group studies or individual use. There are leader notes in the back, and each section includes questions for group discussion, but someone can go through the study independently.

This guide helps people read through and study the book of Galatians, and it includes a summary of Galatians so far, basic observation questions about each new reading, some interpretive questions, and optional further reading elsewhere in the Bible. There are also personal application suggestions and questions. This is a solid study, but one of its weaknesses is that it doesn't include more historical and cultural insight into the context of Galatians.

I prefer Bible studies that include some teaching and explanation from the author before or after you dive into the questions, and the absence of that is a downside of this being a companion to the commentary. It makes the book less effective as a standalone, particularly for people who aren't already well-versed with the Bible, and who would need more to help orient them.

This is a theologically solid, gospel-focused Bible study that can help people better understand and apply the truths in the book of Galatians. However, because this is a companion guide to a full-length exegetical commentary, this sometimes felt a bit vague to me, and like something was missing. Even though this works as a standalone and doesn't require the other book, it appeals to me less than Bible studies that I have used.

I received a free copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

“Practical and easy to use”

(Review written for 'Galatians: Gospel Matters')

Are you looking to do a study on Galatians? If so this is a great companion, especially for small groups. The back half of the book contains a leaders guide to help your group dive deeper. This guide is a great resource and starting point for leading a small group through Galatians. I found the questions to be useful for diving deeper. One part I found to be especially useful was the dictionary in each session. This defines words that might not be as commonly known. I think this encouraged some in our group to ask about other words they didn’t know allowing them to have a better understanding of the passage and the words for future references they may see them in.
Overall, I am a fan of this series and think it would be helpful if you are planning to lead a small group study.

“Great Study”

(Review written for 'Galatians: Gospel Matters')

We have thoroughly enjoyed all the study guides created in The Good Book Guides series from The Good Book Company. We also very much enjoy Timothy Keller's works so I had no doubt that this study would be a great resource.

The book is structured with seven sessions that can be completed in whatever timeframe you wish. The introduction discusses the format of each session and how best to utilize the book. Keller also includes a "Why Study Galations" pitch along with a graphical timeline and map for reference.

Each session includes the following sections:

- Talkabout: ice breaker to create initial discussion around the Bible

- Investigate: passage, dictionary, and exploratory questions

- Apply: practical and personal questions

- Explore More: going deeper

- Getting Personal: personal reflection

- Pray: sit with the Lord

Keller also includes a leaders guide that includes additional questions and insight for each section of each session. This guide allows the book to be used in a small group format but it can also easily be used as a personal study.

I appreciate the variety within each session. Although some sections are noted as optional, I do believe every part is vital to getting the most out of the book being studies. This was a great study and I'm excited to use it for a small group setting.

I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
