Every year our advent candle builds expectation for Christmas, but it burns down to nothing. This wonderful book will create expectation and leave you feeling moved, joyful, thankful and awestruck. You will not be empty-handed or empty-hearted after spending a month with these devotions. Along the way, you will learn to see the riches of Christ in the Old Testament and feel a fresh impetus to see centrality of the story of Jesus in the pages of your Bible.
Have you become a Christmas cynic like me, jaded by a commercialized holiday?  Instead of saying 'bah humbug,' let Tim Chester take you past the trees and tinsel to the ancient biblical drama that led up to Jesus' birth.  The One Trust Story connects the familiar Christmas story to God's mighty works in the past, as well as to our lives in the modern world with freshness and delight.
Every Christmas our hearts must be re-tuned to God’s glorious purpose for sending Jesus into this world. I heartily recommend Tim Chester’s, The One True Story, to do just that. Read it and you will once again resonate with the God of the universe who loves you through Jesus.
It is hard to see how readers of this inexpensive book would not be stimulated to pursue the themes of grace, judgment, faith, salvation, sin, temptation and the ‘true people of God’, as they are developed in the biblical story from beginning to end.... continue reading
Each chapter takes five or six minutes to read comfortably out loud, and closes with a thought for reflection, accompanied by a prayer or a hymn. Those new to the faith will find the gospel opened up to them and seasoned pilgrims will discover much to encourage. Preachers will love the wealth of material here to bring freshness to Christmas ministry, as well as to strengthen their grasp of biblical theology. Highly recommended.... continue reading
I am already a great fan of Tim Chester’s work especially his Advent and Lent readings. This book is surely one of his best. He takes us through many of the familiar stories by of the Old Testament and shows how they fit into the one great story which runs through scripture - the story of creation, fall, redemption and new creation. I have been a Christian for over forty years and yet I learned many new things from this study. It made my heart sing. Thank you Tim Chester.
I bought this book a couple of years ago, not having done an advent devotional before. Found this book a great intro to the christmas season and preparing for Christmas. Enjoyed how it took me through Old Testament. Thought it was so good, I bought it for friends and family this year.
I wanted a book that would give me a fresh perspective on Christmas and cut through all the commercialism and provide a little oasis from all the busyness. For me, this book does that. I try to start the day with it but if I miss one, unlike other reading materials it makes me feel that I need to catch up quickly!
It’s thought provoking and beautifully dove tails Old Testament events with Jesus.
Each reading starts with a direct question or comment to the reader which draws you in. And as you read on, you feel Tim is in the room talking to you.
I’ve bought copies of this book for other people this year and hope they are enjoying it as much as I am.
As all others say really excellent book.
I find books like this soooo wonderful and helpful in really helping me to delve deeper into the Bible.
To learn things I would not have done on my own, and love all the linking of Old and New Testament, have read up to 18 , now back at beginning as doing with a bunch of ladies from Church.
Too good not to share! Have got some copies as presents too
Always great and quick when I order, and last time I put wrong postcode, GBC were great at just sending me my order again, which I then cancelled as got first one, but just saying they were really lovely!!
Also Tim Chester's book for reading in Advent is really inspiring and helpful as is the Two Cities Biblestudy on Isaiah, many thanks

Gripping. Couldn't wait to pick it up each morning. A great preparation for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Yes, I was immediately impressed with this book and having read the first few pages I ordered a further 20 copies to pass on to friends. However, one thing has frustrated both me and some of my more discerning friends. We discovered a total of at least 25 typographical errors (which I will submit separately). I personally found this most disruptive as it therefore meant that I was having to go back and re-read a paragraph to see if I had misunderstood its sense. I strongly suggest that you employ a more experienced proof-reader before re-publishing next year.
This is a truly amazing book, which i am thoroughly enjoying. It is easy to read and has helped me in preparing for Christmas in a way i have not done before. I have learned things like the 2nd Adam and 2nd Joshua. I would highly recommend it it for either own use or in small groups.
I am on day 17 of these advent readings. Every day I have been thrilled by the links drawn by Tim Chester between the Old Testament promises and shadows and the fulfilment and reality in Christ. What a stimulating and heartwarming lead up to Christmas! But this book is not just for Christmas! It could be used with profit at any time of the year. I warmly recommend it.
